hi all.

I'm after some advice about cabling for relocating 2x 16 ch DVRs,

the cameras are connected via balun using cat5 cable.

the dvrs are getting relocated to another room but I need to extend all 32 cat5 cables and was wanting to know if there was another way other than running 32 cat5 to new location.

in the past I have seen the below cable used, Is it any good?

Well, for a start each camera only uses 1/4 of a Cat5 cable, so you would only be running 8...

And to be honest 8 isn't so bad, so I wouldn't risk an all-in-one cable esp. as the number of twists per metre might not match true Cat5 spec..

And it's usually covered in disgusting protective jelly, which I would hate to get involved with indoors (I'm assuming the new room is in the same building)

I take it they really, really do have to move by the way, not just that some manager misunderstands that they can (presumably) be accessed remotely via the net?

Or do they have a live operator jacking straight into monitors and PTZ etc...?

Lol, if it's Poe then it's IP and if you try and use the cable in the image God help you sorting it all out.

looks like you will need to run 32 cat5s or can you not fit a coupe of Poe switches in the current NVR locations?

Suspect he means baluns with spare cores used as power.

Even so, can you not keep the PSUs in the same location and just move the cams via 8 Cat5s?

Better yet try and leave everything where it is and operate remotely!

How are the cameras powered , via same cat5 or locally at each camera?

What's the distance to next room ?

if its an analogue system like whistle says run 8-10 cat 5's and patch each cat 5 camera signal to the pair on the new cat5's in a big junction box, then balun on end to dvr.
