bellman Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Class Tony, pure class..... Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.
ian.cant Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Failure to perform would not stand up Dave! If your manufacture's instructions say dont point them at windows then you would be off the hook.
bellman Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Failure to perform would not stand up Dave! 29580 Shouldn't that be to Compost? Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.
Service Engineer Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 The PIR and DOG smilies shouldn`t appear automatically now. And the customer wont be interested as to what the instructions said, they bought the alarm to protect their premisis and it didn`t. The fact you didn`t protect the required area is YOUR problem. Not theirs.. ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
CompostCORNER Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Jef, you have started somtinh here So is there a conculsion ? I will personal be installing like we have always, until NSI give my a observation or say otherwise for pointing a PIR at the window. How many people in here use the ceiling brackets that come with detector to mount them on a ceiling ? now that is a big NO NO 29533 David Grant at ACT Meters told me never to face P.I.R.s at windows when I went on his false alarms prevention course. His explanation was quite convincing and still adhered to today by me. My next question to him sent the room in hysterics though as I stated how I thought his hit with Jacky Graham should have been a clear No1 record. I'm sure he spat in my egg mayo sandwich that lunchtime because he was always smiling when I looked at him. He could have been just a genuinely generous chap though as he gave his services to my company if we ever had any alarm problems. Tony
Adi Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Yeah there doin my head in, shall I delete the feature..? They not he same as the odd dog running back and forth. I wont suggest any more I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
Service Engineer Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 They not he same as the odd dog running back and forth. I wont suggest any moreYou can still add them manually, they just dont automatically appear any more.David Grant at ACT Meters told me never to face P.I.R.s at windows when I went on his false alarms prevention course. His explanation was quite convincing and still adhered to today by me. Perhaps he did, and many many years ago his advice was relevant, but todays detectors are a different kettle of fish. To my knowledge we have never been called to a FA caused by us pointing a detector at a window.Quite a few of us recommend DT`s in conservatories, do we point them all at the wall..? ........................................................ Adi Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Like someone has already said weve got to look at each install in a proper manner, catch performance and false alarm prevention. The pros and cons. I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
ian.cant Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Failure to perform...? So lets hope a few of you have descent insurance..?Your words not composts. Quite a few of us recommend DT`s in conservatories, do we point them all at the wall..? I would say you follow the manufactures instructions/advice, otherwise you are up the proverbial creek........ As for NSI or SSAIB insepctors not telling you you should'nt point pir's at windows, its not their jobs to tell you how to install. They only inspect your installs to ensure you are installing to the relevant standards. If you asked them the question then you would no doubt get the correct advice.
ian.cant Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 And the customer wont be interested as to what the instructions said, they bought the alarm to protect their premisis and it didn`t. The fact you didn`t protect the required area is YOUR problem. Not theirs.. True but it depends on how you word your quotes i suppose. Also i would that if someone put a hand through the window and whipped an ornament would you expect the alarm to activate? In mid winter when its blowing a houlie maybe, but i would'nt gaurantee it.
