ElecTech Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Sorry for the vagueness on product specific details... A guy has rang me & asked if its possible to add an external HDD onto a QVIS (old analogue) DVR... His DVR HDD is knackered & wondered if he could add his own. Does anyone know if this is possible? If not what are the chances of getting a replacement HDD or will it be replacement unit only. Quote
james.wilson Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 id say you could just replace it but keep 2tb or lower Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
sixwheeledbeast Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Guessing you'd have to source IDE drive, or SATA convertor if old. Also possible the machine will not record to External if internal is faulty. Quote
james.wilson Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 that's true as 6wb if its pata then sourcing a drive will be difficult Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
datadiffusion Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Not sure about embedded but wasn't 2TB the max for any PATA interface on the average winbox? Quote So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
james.wilson Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I've had it on some old data stuff. also on 64 bit Linux machines not booting due a gpt issue iirc Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
sixwheeledbeast Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 MBR only supports addressing upto 32 bits which is the limitation on 2TB I don't recall seeing a PATA drive larger than 750GB. Quote

But guessing a 2TB SATA on a PATA>SATA adaptor would work? Quote So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
