Thanks for your response.

The PIR's for the landing and kitchen were both connected directly to zone 4, I disconnected one of them.

Are you saying that I should change one of the PIR's to a latching sensor and reconnect as it was?

I don't know what a latching centre is - could you recommend a suitable unit please.

Thanks

no don't wire it as it was, id guess its wired parallel. I reakon if you recoonect it and disconnect the other one that one will work. Get someone that knows what they are doing as by the sounds you have had 2 sensors unable to work for 20 years!

The system was installed by builder 20 years ago and has worked well throughout (2 new batteries)

yes but wouldn't of worked on a break in.  A false sense of security is worse than no security

I agree that the 2 sensors have not been working.

They were connected in parallel, I have tried each of them separately connected to zone 4 and they both work.

Is there a way of connecting the unused PIR into the system?

If its complex, disruptive and/or expensive I may decide to leave one of them permanently disconnected. The house is fairly well covered and it would still be better than it has been for the last 20 years.

as I said wire it correctly and it will function, but you need a latching sensor in one place to know which one triggers. Best way is to have a panel that has enough inputs for your detectors. Also get builders to build, get an alarm specialist to do alarms.

the thieves guild used to have burglary as a 2 man job, sensors wired in parallel would detect 2 men in the 2 separate rooms at the same time.

I blame thatcher for breaking the unions ever since the poor alalrm monkey ensure they did their zone in series or one devices a zone.... bitch

Thanks for your help James.

I will leave it as it is for now but probably update the control panel to one with more zones in the future.

I agree with your comment regarding builders/alarm specialists, it probably also applies to home owners/alarm specialists but sometimes finance is a consideration.
