external pir's?

Recommended Posts

hi there, a mate of mine recently had his car broken into from his private yard, and he has asked me to provide him with an external system linked to a dialler.

The yard is about 15 x 25m, any ideas plse or reccomendations on the type of sensors i can use externally? Obviously they must be reliable and not prone to false alarms, i.e by a cat or rabbit!

any help appreciated.

cheers

My first thoughts would be CCTV with motion detection and remote viewing.

As far as an alarm is concerned tell him to forget it, no way are you not going to get false alarms externally. Why try and shut the door when the horse has bolted, maybe he needs to make the yard more secure, that would be money better spent in my opinion.

On the CCTV side, GJD OPAL Elite's are pretty good detectors for switching on a VCR or lighting.

The old SECOR system I was privvi in creating originally used Crow DD's. Crow's Genius was a great detector for sheds and garages that wasn't exactly airtight but the Crow D&D was great for external detection on an internal control panel.

Of course, if money is not a problem, you could pay in excess of £200 for a single 12vdc 'Ernitec' detector with a 30meter plus range.

It's all there if you can afford it. Nothing is Impossible if you know what exists and you are prepared to pay the price.

CCTV is out of question because they definitely make FA's if connected to alarm system. If not connected you can see from recorded images that your car has been robbed which u can easily notice even without cameras and recorders.

If you want to install something outside PROTECH makes proper DT's (will be in class 4 with new en - norms ). BUT in any case the yard has to have a fence to prevent rabbits and etc running in the yard. PROTECH DT's CAN be tuned to not make FA's of rabbits but covering area will be reduced and since they cost approximately 20 times more than normal pir you don't want to install very many of those i guess..

Hi Georg,

Do you have a website for Protech? I've never heard of them before.

Thanks,

mike,

Have you considered IR beams?

I think you can get dual beams which would cut out problems from cats and rabbits.

What about the Optex VX50 / LX40 / LX80 range? Designed to go outside, and pretty reliable if installed right in a not-too-harsh external environment.

You can get quad beams, and you could also stack them and wire them in series, should be ok unless the bunnies are 6' tall!
