Juiceloose Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Good evening, I have a Pyronix enforcer alarm at home with the MC2-WE door contact attached to my front door. I had the door door replaced last week and when removing the door the contractor accidentally damaged the sensor. I have ordered a replacement off the internet but cannot seem to find any menu in the master manager area to allow me to search for and pair a new contact. Is this option only available from the engineering menu? If so, is there any way of accessing it or am I looking at a complete new panel and starting from scratch. The company that fitted the alarm in 2012 has sadly gone out of business so I can't contact them. Any advice would be gratefully received. Quote
Lwillis Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Programming in the new sensor is an engineer only function. Any local company will be able to takeover the system and do this for you. Contact a couple of companies for quotes for a callout Quote
Juiceloose Posted April 14, 2017 Author Posted April 14, 2017 Thank you for your reply. Any ideas how much a call out should cost? Quote
ElecTech Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 I'd imagine £50-£150 somewhere in between. Quote
james.wilson Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 bear in mind anyone working on it takes a 3 month liability of risk. I'd expect them to want a full takeover Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Lwillis Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Agree with James, I'd recommend taking out an annual maintenance contract and have the system serviced regularly, this is more important on wirefree systems. Quote
Juiceloose Posted April 16, 2017 Author Posted April 16, 2017 Thank you for your advice gents, much appreciated. Can you confirm what the service entails? In the past four years I have on an annual basis replaced the CR123A batteries in the six PIR units and the CR2 battery in the old front door contact. I've also been up the ladder and replaced the battery bell. On each occasion the tamper alarm has sounded so I've had to silence it with my user code which i can live with. As you predicted, the companies I contacted have both indicated they will complete a call out to install the new door contact I have purchased but both want me to sign up to an annual maintenance contract. I understand that and why they want to guarantee repeat business for themselves. When asked what was included in the annual visit, both indicated a full test of the system and replacement batteries everywhere. When i advised I was able to do this myself, both indicated they would still replace them anyway as security for themselves that the system was working fine when they left. Now to the hub of things. The quote to install the new door contact and check the rest of the system was £195 with the first company followed by an annual service visit fee of £150. The second company wanted £220 for the first visit plus £135 for the annual check. When asked, both companies stated they would retain the engineer code which I understand. Now, I have also established that I can purchase a brand new panel to replace my existing unit complete with engineer code for £170. As I already have the bell, door contact and six PIR units and can replace the batteries in all of them, would this be a batter option for me? I have two further questions for the experts out there: 1. Having read the engineer installation manual for the Pyronix, it doesn't look easy but it does appear one can do it if you follow the instructions carefully. Could a householder DIY install one? 2. If the answer to 1 above is no, are the prices reasonable for the work being completed/proposed? Thanks in advance. Quote
al-yeti Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Where aboutsorry are you? Brand new panel means everything has to be reprogrammed, What you need is a house basher but then some will charge about £100 to do it Quote

PeterJames Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Both maintenance's seem steep but I am no where near you so, they may not be that steep, If its fully comp then its a reasonable charge in comparison to what I would charge ( I do not really do fully comp). You sound like you are quite capable, if you can change the batteries yourself, but you dont need to install a new one just default the codes and reprogram the one you have Quote
