Martin Kelly Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 (edited) Hi All, i recently purchased my first first house and the burglar alarm is not working. It’s a Veritas 8c control panel with 7 PIR motion sensors and a few door contacts and an outside alarm and light box. Something on the panel seems to have blown, there are black burn marks on the inside of the casing. Now my dilemma is to just buy a replacement panel (same model) and wire that in and let it be.. or upgrade the panel and eventually upgrade the sensors over time. if I was to upgrade, I would like something fairly modern, maybe that I can control from my phone or receive notifications on when it goes off. Home automation would be a bonus as I also have a nest heating system and amazon echo device. i just really don’t know which to get. There seems to be a lot of options. Some I’ve never heard of, some are very expensive and some need a large panel for all the wiring and then a separate keypad. currently all of the wires to my existing system come directly into the Veritas panel near the front door, I don’t think it would look very good to have a big plastic panel there and a keypad next to it. is anyone aware of a decent smart alarm panel that can be used with my existing wired system that they would recommend? thank you for your help Edited February 9, 2018 by Martin Kelly Quote
al-yeti Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 (edited) Self install? Or Engineer ? Whatever you do , don't put another veritas in , good panel in its own way but pointless if you want to upgrade and move with the times Edited February 9, 2018 by al-yeti Quote
Martin Kelly Posted February 9, 2018 Author Posted February 9, 2018 Thanks for getting back to me. will be a self install. I used to be an electrician before I moved to an office job and should be competent enough. Just not up to speed on the current manufacturers and models/options available Quote
PeterJames Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 There isnt a panel that works with Echo as far as I know, but then again why would you want that, all the burglar would have to do is say "Alexa disarm alarm" LOL! Nothing wrong with the Texcom products its probably the easiest route, there are panels out there with apps I am not sure if there are any that are DIY though most require installers to set up the cloud etc Quote
Martin Kelly Posted February 9, 2018 Author Posted February 9, 2018 yeah I think I’ll leave Alexa out of this one. I’ll have a look at Texcom. Been looking at Honeywell and inim this evening which also look good but not sure yet if they are suitable for my setup. Quote

Ignore Peter he's a veritas supporter lol, Texecom Pyronix euro Honeywell flex 20 or is it 50 Seeing as you have wired sensors in place Quote
Martin Kelly Posted February 9, 2018 Author Posted February 9, 2018 At the moment it has 8 lights on the panel and only 7 light up. There are door sensors but I’m not sure if they are wired in or not yet. the Honeywell I seen was a touch enabled one, I don’t remember the model but I’ll have a look at the ones you mentioned Quote
Martin Kelly Posted February 9, 2018 Author Posted February 9, 2018 There is about 7 PIR Motion Sensors in the house btw Quote
