I haven't personally, no, as I am just getting into alarms.

For other low-voltage stuff that I've done, the transformer is mounted at a gang box in the wall. It could also be in a seperate power supply box along with back up batteries. I don't think they are usually in the controll panel itself. The transformer will either be in the wall, or in a seperate power supply box. (or a plug, as noted above.)

Here's an example of a sytem that requires a transformer -

Not being funny but that setup seems very backward, having to buy transformers separately to the alarm, just glad we live in a country where its far more organized.

I have to agree there. It is easier getting the panel and TX as a 'bundle'. In Zimbabwe, the TX is bought separately and installed outside the main panel - over there it is considered bad practice to put 240V inside the panel.

Again not being funny but that american stuff looks WAY behind the stuff we have over here, no tampers, no transformers, next you'll be telling me they dont need battery backup.

That was just one system that I found where it was listed that the package wasn't bundled with a transformer from that dealer.

You get other packages from other places, and you get a transformer or not.

I didn't mean periodic testing, I meant if I were to extend a radial installed by another contractor then I would have to test the original length of cable installed and certify it as safe. It's no good adding on to someone elses dangerous wiring, thus making yours unsafe, and just saying "nothing to do with me, my bits ok". I would have to advise of any parts of the installation that were unsafe, whilst also correcting what directly affected the performance of my part of the installation.

And re: not testing other peoples work, that is a NICEIC issue, which basically means if you test for other people because they need a NICEIC certificate then they're not going to join the NICEIC, and the NICEIC won't get there money from them.

I don't know how you managed to get to this when the original question was ,

'Or, can you run the wire and have a licensed electrician certify your work?'.

and yes, we all know why Niceic don't like us to certify other people's installations for them.

I tried that, I passed out so that works well. I can't start going off on a tangent whilst in a comatosed state!

Yes, someone else suggested that, but I think that was for a different reason, I believe bromide was also mentioned at the time...
