Guest esbark Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Hello, I am a non-trade newbie seeking advice on the choice of a stand alone ( not PC based ) Digital Video recorder for use with 3 colour cameras for domestic use , ideally with one sound recording channel. I had settled on a XVIS9DVR from 3YK until I found this brilliant forum and read about this company. 1/ Two questions for you experts: can anyone recommend a reliable recorder for around £500 ( i will sacrifice the sound if i have to ) 2/ Having no experience with these items can you tell me what happens in the event of a power cut of say 2 hours .obviously it will stop recording but will it hold all of the settings and re-commence recording when the power returns or does it need setting up again.I need this to run unattended without loss of picture. I intend running it off a UPS to iron out short mains interruptions. Over to you experts.
Service Engineer Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I`m very much in the same situation as this chap. I do have knowledge of cameras and dvr`s, but never really anything i`d class as top notch, I am after a GOOD dvr, 1 channel sound and 4 cameras tops. I want QUALITY capture, at upto 25 fps, and i mean frame by frame quality. I need to be able to pause any frame and get a descent capture good enough to print off. I could also do with computer interfacing. Whats the best i can get for £500 ish..? ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
Guest esbark Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Hello Again, I think that I now need to elaborate on my original question. I only mentioned the figure of £500 because I thought that my requirements could be met at that figure. If I need to increase it as Peter suggests then so be it. So my question should now read : Recommendations please for a reliable stand alone DVR capable of monitoring 3 cameras ( sound on 1 channel would be a bunus )for use in monitoring domestic premises. This DVR would be fed from a UPS backed up supply and must return to its previous settings without intervention after a power cut which extends beyond the UPS backup time.
Guest PaulR Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 I can supply an excellent 4 channel DVR with a built in CD writer and a very easy to use menu if you like. It is not on the Security Instore website as it used by our parent company. At £599 + vat retail it is good value too. We have had nothing but good reports from our customers with this unit and are very pleased with it's usability & reliability. It records 100 fps PAL and up to 720x576 res. (not at the same time however). It is networkable and triplex (record and playback at the same time) and even has a USB port for loading flash memory sticks. If you want any images PM me and I can e-mail them over if you like. Here is some of the blurb on it: High resolution MPEG-2 Video Compression Built-in CD writer Easy to operate through User Interface IR Remote Controller Multiple recording and playback functions (choose different frame rates for each camera) Audio I/O(4 inputs/1 output) Different recording modes (manual, timer, alarm/sensor,motion) Complete TRIPLEX system (simultaneous recording, playback and data transmission) Network functionality (Remote monitoring, Remote playback, video and image backup) PTZF camera support (Supports major protocols e.g.PELCO_D/PELCO_P types) Safety and security (Watchdog timer and 2 levels of password protection) Various backup data support (CD-RW, USB Flash Memory, network) System log support (view system log files to check on DVR usage) Ring me on 0870 950 1114 if you need more info, I have them in stock and can post one to your door.

Matt F Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 Dedicated Micro's ECO 4 Should be around the price you want to pay. Matt
C.S TEK. Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 go for a 4 way 160gb vista triplex from NORBAIN.(or Aritech as its made by GE interlogix) should set u back just over a £1000. bit more reliable than the Dedicated Micros and one step up aswell.Think they also do the 4 way with built in cdrw now. Only difference is it doesnt look as stylish as its not in silver, but hey why lack security for style Chris ISC Systems Ltd Trade Member As Mr Kingswood said "Dont forget the 6 P's when installing.....Proper Preperation Prevents P*** Poor Performance!!!"
