Guest wired Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Is there a standard colour code to use when wiring intruder alarms?
Brian c Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 I don't mean to be cynical, but, why do you ask!? If you don't know......ask.
norman Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 No Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Guest Guest Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 I don't mean to be cynical, but, why do you ask!? 30944 HI, I'm a spark and have installed alarms for years , but this question came up on another forum I use and my answer was NO. Someone else has replied and said Yes there is, so I am only looking to calrify. Security consious to the last on here , eh? wired
norman Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 No 30946 Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Brian c Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 lol Your answer was correct. Most companies use their own standard colours but this can and does vary from company to company. If you don't know......ask.
Guest Guest Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Yeah, this is what I understood about alarm installation, everyone uses their own colour code to increase security, I know the larger companies have their own and I use my own. I did reply to the Yes answer to ask where they got their info, but they have not replied, and informing them that I have never seen such info printed anywhere even the installation manual ( you know, that little booklet you always throw away ) anyway this forum has made me feel better. thanks wired
antinode Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 Generally, black and red are used for negative and positive connections respectively, but there are no hard and fast rules. So long as you can remember which wire does what, you can use what you like Trade Member
Guest RICHL Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 so long as the colours match up all the way through the installation thats all that matters.
Deltaseven Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 I worked on a take-over today where the colours were all topsy-turvey! Red carrying negative 12v, etc. Did my head in a bit!!
