sixwheeledbeast Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 Phone line polarity hasn't been an issue for 20 years or more. All approved devices had to be made compatible with either polarity, starting around the touchtone era, well on POTS stuff anyway. I would still use foil on glass if required, you say it's passed it. I'd say it's proven and works well in the right situation. Quote
Specialist Posted May 28, 2019 Author Posted May 28, 2019 God, I haven't seen or Installed foil on glass for more years thank care to remember. But your right it's well proven and when Installed properly, does a good job. It's like batten, tube and lace, not used now but did an excellent job for many years. Jeeze my age is showing, I can still remember the first time I helped install it. Quote Customers Love us, Intruders Hate us.

I see that old stuff worked well and this is a prime example that it was. But i assume 6 your not using tsi via a modem or a direct leased line etc. Times change and I think pstn for anything is past it least of all something possibly important Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

If a modem could do broadband speeds without having to have the line engaged it may still be in use. There are a good few companies that still prefer fax for example. The time to be received is similar to an email so it's still fit for purpose. Quote
Specialist Posted May 29, 2019 Author Posted May 29, 2019 Must admit I was using a fax machine myself until it packed up a few weeks back & never had any complaints. Quote Customers Love us, Intruders Hate us.
petrolhead Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 (edited) I use the test um lil buttie, it has dsl indication and a screen with onboard dtmf decoding, cli, line voltage, line current and polarity indication. tbh though I dont use pstn for intruder alarm signalling but it is still very prevalant in warden call and medical alarm signalling, and the dtmf decode has been very handy on a number of occasions. I bought a few when comtec were having a clearout at around £13+vat Edited June 1, 2019 by petrolhead Quote
Specialist Posted June 1, 2019 Author Posted June 1, 2019 Thanks, will check it out. I've got the test-um high power toner & probe kit, that's been a really good bit of kit. Quote Customers Love us, Intruders Hate us.
