Guest 40meterleads Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Not good practice, programme any unused zones as Spare. 32154 Absolutely incorrect
Guest Galaxy_Where_Abouts Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Absolutely incorrect 32275 And all this coming from someone who obviously thinks you get meter leads 40 meters long!!!!!!!!! Although i do believe he's telling the truth on linking zones out with 1k resistors
bellman Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 And all this coming from someone who obviously thinks you get meter leads 40 meters long!!!!!!!!!Although i do believe he's telling the truth on linking zones out with 1k resistors 32277 I was always told (by ademco microtech tech) to link out with 1K and programme as spare, due to unexplained tamper faults. Regards Bellman Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.
Guest miketubby Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 ... for what its worth... Logic clearly shows us that if you link out a zone with a 1K resistor this has to be the equivalent of a "perfect zone", as it's the right resistance, right at the panel (or RIO) and should never false alarm, if its a real zone, intruder, p.a., spare or any other mode... it is afterall a *perfect* zone In my (rather large) DIY install I've programmed zones to 'spare' where I've installed the wiring from the panel (or RIO) out to the detector site but haven't actually put the detector/door switch/etc in yet... that seems to me a good use of 'spare' On my home system (Galaxy 500, smart PSU, 4 RIOs, 3 RKPs, etc. etc. etc.) I've fitted a 1K resistor across all unused zones *and* programmed them as 'spare' because this appears to be the "right thing to do" ... if it's spare it shoudn't be monitored/polled by the system... even if it is monitored it will appear as the *perfect* zone... If you've got a Galaxy that is doing false alarms then why? Have you: - used the correct type of data cable (Belden 8723, or equiv) for RIOs and RKPs? - earthed the outer/screen of the data cable(s) correctly at the panel - removed the top/left screw from the 3A Smart PSU and insulated it... this may be 'folk lore' but two other installers have told me this one... - got an up-to-date and stable release of firmware, like 4.39 installed - checked the reason for your false alarms... ae they... low res? high res? I've been working on my install for 6 weeks or so now... on and off... and I've followed what I belived is 'best practive' throughout and had only one problem... whch was a high res on a Menvier TS02 smoke detector... my fault... had partially trapped insulation in one of the screw terminals... log entry on Galaxy allowed quick and accurate diagnois... antinode Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Just out of curiosity... Whats a RIO? Trade Member
Guest miketubby Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Just out of curiosity... Whats a RIO? 32348 By my reckoning... Remote Input/Output device If you're not Galaxy aware... it's a plastic box (about 6" square) that connects to a Galaxy alarm panel to provide 8 additional inputs and 4 additional outputs Mike
