sixwheeledbeast Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Last day of support for Windows 7 today, for anyone not aware. It's estimated 32% of the market share is still Windows 7. Very relevant here, I can imagine many engineers with older software working on Win7 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-7-end-of-life-support-information Quote
PeterJames Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 It is a big problem, we had several CCTV recorders running on XP, we still have albeit they are not connected to any networks. The same goes for win 7 machines we have a couple of systems that we cant upgrade to 10 because the hardware required to view the cameras doesnt work with W10. We have told the customers that they either need to upgrade all the cameras and the recorder, or go with an off-the-shelf hybrid recorder. Quote
MrHappy Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 I believe you can edit the registry on your XP / Win 7 machine so it an "EPOS terminal" & continues to receives updates from windows Quote Mr Veritas God
sixwheeledbeast Posted January 14, 2020 Author Posted January 14, 2020 Been Windows free for over a decade now. As long as it's been documented then it's up to the customer to upgrade for stuff in the field. Quote
datadiffusion Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 Dad had an email from a friend of his asking if I knew anything about how they can 'install Norton antivirus or something' to make up for the end of support on Windows 7, which I guess must have popped up on the screen. I guess like so many people they just don't get it. So I can see my next visit to see him will be interrupted by a 4 hour diversion to attempt to install Windows 10 on some crappy Celeron PC. sixwheeledbeast Posted January 15, 2020 Author Posted January 15, 2020 It's not worth installing Win10 on older hardware, the UX will be pants, if it even runs at all. Quote
datadiffusion Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 Agreed I was only joking - I'll just persuade them to buy any half decent machine with W10 already on. Quote So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands
