Hello,

I am looking for advice on a Karizma iD system installed in a house i have bought. I am in the process of installing down lights and needed to isolate the lighting system but unfortunately the alarm system is also connected to this supply. The issue is that when i cut off the supply, the alarm starts to instantly sound and there is no power to the keypad to enter my code. Does this mean the main back up battery is dead? Any help would be great.

Thanks

John

Hi,

Yes it is most likely the back up battery, relatively cheap to have it replaced and would also negate the risk of damage to the main panel through trying to charge a defective battery.

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

Yes it's likely the system hasn't been serviced in a while and the standby battery is shot.

Karizma is pretty old and obsolete they are also known to have issues with the NVM over time especially when they haven't been serviced. Also the detection is on a BUS (iD) wire configuration which is pretty uncommon.

If you are doing a bit of work in the house and plan to use the alarm, it's worth considering the upgrade options.

Thank you very much for the speedy responses. It is very much appreciated. I have only been given one code for the alarm by the previous owner, how do I know if this is a manager's code or a user code? I would obviously like to change the main code for my use.
