Virgin running on there own DOCSIS can do what they like.

You can get routers with analogue phone outputs that can route calls via PSTN or SIP based on number dialled etc.

I don't see how this type of thing wouldn't be used to prop up all the legacy connections for a good while.

 

The tests on using the emulated analogue ports are hit and miss for digis, systems need to be upgraded. The question is who pays. Like sky vs netflix etc, clients are happy to upgrade their tv, amazon stick etc but upgrading a 20yr old bit of kit is too much and obviously our fault for it no longer being reliable.

personally I've been pulling stuff largely at my cost just to get UDL

 

often the cost of getting it working outstrips the purchase price by quite a lot, I'll also bin controls at my cost if it suits me
