scrimshanker Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 this is a bit of a noob question but what's the difference between an internal sounder and an extension speaker? 2 Quote
james.wilson Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 A speaker is a speaker, ie needs a speaker signal. A sounder needs switched voltage (in our case 12v) to sound. 2 Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
sixwheeledbeast Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Apart from the electrical connections being different they have slightly different applications. A speaker will mimic all the noises the panel makes, if you have a good panel you can program volumes etc. Sounder is just a loud noise typically only in alarm conditions but would depend on output programming. 2 Quote
scrimshanker Posted October 9, 2020 Author Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) So really for a modern alarm, say texecom or orisec you want a speaker so you can use the different tones for fire, intruder etc? Edited October 9, 2020 by scrimshanker 1 Quote
MrHappy Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 The speaker is mostly so you know its set from outside the final door Quote Mr Veritas God

sixwheeledbeast Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I am the opposite, I prefer the flexibility of speakers via panel programming. Quote
CM Security Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 (edited) Speakers are use to amplify any sounds from the control panel or keypad such as entry exit tones & chimes where a sounder will just make a noise when power is applied like a external bell box Edited October 13, 2020 by CM Security Quote
