Has anybody dealt with Salto Systems and their long range reader (deister)??

There kit is quite good but their support is abysmal.

Salto are a law unto themselves, if your not in the Salto club they dont want to know you. Even the Salto stand at IFSEC was a waste of time for anyone that wasnt registered withem already.

Kits not great in my opinion and PJ is right about being in the club. Need something with a load of doors to get in.

Do you have a specific question about the long range readers, maybe that will help move the topic along?

The kit is not that good their USP is they have offline doors, I would say thats a bad thing, the whole point of access control is that you have control theres a clue in the name. It is all closed protocol and expensive, but not as trouser droppingly as Indigo Vision

Shame more manuf aren't the same really.

Although it doesnt sound like it I actually agree, but we have one extreme to the other. Its almost impossible to join the Salto club and once your in the sales targets are stupid. I have several site with Salto because (and feck knows why) the customer specified it. The customer does nothing but moan about it now their in and in other parts of the country they are ripping it out and fitting Paxton almost the opposite to Salto in the respect that even Imran can be a certified Paxton installer. This industry does need a big shake up but I cant see it happening in my lifetime

nor mine, well it's being 'shook up' but not in a good way for installers imo.

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

I wouldn't agree here, when you look at Salto as an example they often seem to sell it to the customer direct on the UX which as an installer you have little control over

Customers forcing installers or contractors into using a brand of kit leaves the manufacturer holding all the cards.

...and don't get me started on the design of the stuff or if your waiting for it to come from Spain on back order.

My point was more aimed at manufacturers being a bit more closed shop from the DIY, but we all know that's never going to happen as its a strong revenue stream for them.
