We have had a Karizma plus alarm for about 16 years & never had any issues. Had the conservatory replaced with a room before Xmas and the PIR has just showed tamper fault and won't reset. Engineer came today hasn't seen this alarm system before so although we have the engineer code he couldn't find how to clear it after he had fixed a loose wire in the PIR. Can anyone guide us through it? Or recommend cheapest way to fix, new control panel etc. Moving on Friday!

Any proper alarm company will be able to sort it, not sure what sort of engineer you got out but tamper is a basic thing with all alarm panels

The system is an obsolete iD system, most are star wired this type of wiring is not like most alarm systems so they can be difficult to upgrade to a more traditional wired alarm.

I would say it should be replaced sooner than later but if your leaving your unlikely wanting to be spending money on it.

Regards replacement it all depends on the system but it's very possible you would need to start again wiring, sensors the lot.

If you have been in engineers mode and it will not clear on leaving, it's likely still got a fault with that device, wire or biscuit if they aren't iD sensors.

Someone that knows iD systems would likely sort it no problem even if you have to remove that device and have less on the system.

Thanks, removing it is a good option if necessary as it's in the conservatory and we have external doors from the lounge into it. We have another guy coming tomorrow who is going to fit security lighting at the new house so hopefully he can fix it.

Electricians are not the same as alarm engineers, its like asking a dentist to remove your tonsils.

Karizma is mid 1990's ?

if if was fitted by a 40yr old bloke chances are he's retired or dead....

I've more chance of seeing a Vauxhall Nova or VHS video recorder than Karizma

There's a good few Karizmas out there still, some companies back in the day only fitted iD. But they are bound to cause an issue to the occupiers in the near future.

NVM checksum issues, failing obsolete biscuits, lots wired star with four cored cable, your just kicking the can down the road not upgrading.
