Hi guys,

I've just bought a new home with an ADT alarm system, I don't think the alarm is active, I don't have the code and the alarm doesn't do very much other than some blinking lights on a box in the study, I have had to switch the main power off a couple of times and the alarm doesn't do anything, so I'm assuming the alarm isn't active in any capacity? There looks to be a panic button in the master bedroom which I just want to pull off the wall but am worried what will happen, I don't want the alarm to go off because I don't have the code. Any chance this will happen?

Thanks,

Andy

If the alarm is in good working order, having the power off a few hours wouldn't cause any issues.

It's a common misconception that alarms sound if the mains goes off but that is actually a sign they are unmaintained and faulty.

PA would likely activate if connected, so you would need the code before you can silence it.

I assume any monitoring would be cancelled at this point but worth checking that too.

QFA plus ADT often dont provide a real bell its normally a decoy outside. ADT prefer you to take up their monitoring

Agreed on the above a well maintained system should not activate the external bell however it should inform 'a level 2 user' that it has an issue.

As pj says all those alarms that activate externally show that they are not looked after, maintained or bothered about. So never armed if functioning at all. Never let your external sounder activate without decent cause or some might think its just a power failure
