jamez79 Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Hi, I am currently in the process of running the cabling in for an alarm i'm going to have fitted. Trying to save cash running cable in myself. (Alarm is Texecom Veritas excel - metal box) I have read that the alarm cable should not be run next to mains cable and lighting cable etc. Is this correct? In most places i can do this but there are a few places where wires will have to cross mains/lighting cables (at right angles) or run alongside them. Could anyone tell me if what i have read is true and if so what i can do to reduce the risks of false alarms/spikes etc? Thanks James
Guest Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Crossing mains cables at 90 degrees is acceptable, but there is absolutely no need to run them alongside mains at all. Ideally you want the alarm cables at least 100-150mm away from each other. You either need to re-plan the routes or leave the cabling to an installer. And use 8 core, it's always preferred to have spare cores on the runs for future upgrades\repiars.
jamez79 Posted December 3, 2004 Author Posted December 3, 2004 Thanks for the advice. It's appreciated. James
