Sapper 75 Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Morning all, I've got Texecom Premier Elite wireless system set up. I fitted it myself but had a Texecom engineer round to commission it for me and i general look after it which includes him coming round once a year to change all the batteries. He said if I was to run a cable from the control panel to the siren the next time he was over he would hard wire it for me and that would save having to keep changing the batteries and also I could then, if I wanted, have the blue light flashing on it when the system is armed! To do this I would need to remove the siren box to drill a hole to be able to run the cable through, question is, how do I take it down without setting the alarm of? He did give me the engineers code a while back because after he left I decided to move the control box in to the loft but maybe he's changed that code now I don't know! Anyhow I would appreciate any help and advice from the technical minded on this, thanks. Quote
sixwheeledbeast Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Run the cable drill through later. Loft's are bad places for control boxes, wild temperature changes and access issues. Quote
james.wilson Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Engineer mode is the way or silence with user code. But yiu shouldnt have snything showing armed status. Burglars would look for it Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
Sapper 75 Posted November 15, 2021 Author Posted November 15, 2021 Good morning all, I'm an end user and I would greatly appreciated some help from you guy's. I recently fitted a Texecom Premier Elite wireless system ad had a Texcom engineer round to commission it and then come round each year to change batteries and check things over. Whist here was here he said if I was to run a cable from the control box to the outside siren, the next time he comes round he would hard wire it for me. Whilst I've got time on my hands I thought I would do the cabling now but to drill a hole through the wall I would first of all need to remove the siren. my question is, how to I do this without setting the siren off? Mark the engineer is on holiday at the moment so I can't ask him but he did give me the engineers code if that's of any help. Thanks in advance of any help . Quote
Andyha Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 Hello Normally you don't - that is, you don't not set the siren off. There is not normally a back door - if there was it would not be long before the bad guys knew it or worked it out. Assuming the siren is correctly set up any attempt to remove it from the wall or take the cover off should set of the siren once it is enabled. Inside there may be a connection or switch to silence the sounder (for example for shipping and installation). Best bet is to google the instructions (if you don't already have them) which will tell you what to do to enable the siren (and therefore what to do to silence/disable it). Wear ear defenders when initially working on the siren/sounder - as you can imagine they are even louder when you are close up. be very careful if you are at height - you know it is going to go off but even so it can be very loud and this increases the danger if at height. Also be careful of your cable route - it needs to be "inside the protected area" to be protected from attack/sabotage/tampering or it needs to be within suitable physical protection (such as steel conduit) if external. This matters if the alarm is associated with any insurances etc, less so if it is a DIY system but it is nevertheless important to keep it secure. I hope that helps Quote
MrHappy Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 AAn alarm where you have the engineer code & also run the cable sounds like an unusual set up. If you have a texecom wireless bell it would need swapping for a wired bell, run the cable from control panel to near the final location ? Mark the "engineer" can borrow your drill & ladders to finish up when he comes back 1 Quote Mr Veritas God
