Guest eddiefast Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 hello forum i have i little problem i need help with (i do not need a cctv snobs view please do not be offened by me saying that) what i need to know is cctvcameras come in different tvl i know dvr recorders can only record at a a certain level (i use a kodicom dvr card) so i do not want to buy cameras that are over spec costing me money what do not do any justice to play back. the next question is is there a great difference from sharp chips and sony chip (exsept for the cost) will a customer notice many thanks forum any help at all would be great eddie
Brian c Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 My understanding of it is there is no direct relation between the TVL of the camera and the level (FPS or IPS) of the DVR card. What I mean is if you use a higher spec camera, the playback images will be relevant to the camera. A 700TVL camera will produce a considerably better picture than a 280 TVL camera, regardless of the recorder. Obviously a 100FPS DVR card will produce 'better' (more) images than a 50FPS DVR card during playback. TVL may be better thought of as resolution. The 'level' (FPS/IPS) of your DVR is purely how many images it can record per second. Couldn't really comment on your second question, although, unless one was more prone to failure than the other, I doubt the customer would notice. If you don't know......ask.
Guest eddiefast Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 i have connect to my dvr recorder (kodicom) 570 tvl nightvision camera and a 480 tvl camera the picture i get on live screen and play back is exactly the same apart from the other camera costing me another hundred quid so what i am asking is if any one uses the kodicom system what tvl cameras do you use and are happy with .
Guest eddiefast Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 ok to put it another way for a standard shop 4/8 camers int what cameras would you recormend (tvl) kodicom dvr what do the puplic find acceptable for a standard install shop small outlet
Brian c Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 480TVL seems acceptable to me. Really depends on how good a picture you want! Panasonic and JVC are well regarded. If you don't know......ask.
Guest Peter James Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 Hi eddie You will find the better the tvl of the camera the better the picture the other end. Of course you are limitted by the cards resolution but if you put cr#p in you get cr#p out. Pete
Guest eddiefast Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 THANKS FOR YOU RELYS THE ONLY RESON I HAVE POSTED IS I HAVE JUST REPLACED X4 CUTOMERS CAMERAS FROM 480 TVL TO 570 TVL AND TO BE HONEST I FEEL LIKE I HAVE RIPPED THE CUSTOMER OFF BECAUSE THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE MUCH DIFFERENCE IN THE QUALITY OF PICTURE. I SPOKE TO THE SUPPLIER OF THE KODICOM CARD AND HE SAYS THE CARD HAS ITS LIMMITS BUT IT IS ALLWAYS BETTER TO BUT MORE IN THAN LESS IN THAT TAKES ME BACK TO WHY PAY MORE FOR MORE TVL IF DVR RECORDER CANNOT REPRODUCE IT SORRY TO BORE YOU WITH THIS PROBLEM PLEASE UNDERSTAND THANKS AGAIN EDDIE
Guest Peter James Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 Thats strange as I have one of those cheap nasty pico cards in my house(I dont need h quality) and when I upgraded from 380 line to day/night 480/520 lines it made a noticeable difference. At work we dont use cheap cameras if we can help it at all. Pete
Brian c Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 It will also depend on the amount TVL that the DVR card can reproduce on the screen/monitor and the TVL of the screen/monitor itself. I assume it's being viewed on a PC monitor, if so try increasing the monitors resolution. ie. from 800x600 to 1024x768 If you don't know......ask.
