veritas 8 - tamper

I moved into my house about 10 months ago, a Veritas 8 alarm was already fitted. It has been fine up til now. But over the last few weeks the external light has been flashing occassionally when I get in, and the tamper indicator has been flashing on the panel (I don't generally set my alarm so it isn't activated during the day...). This has been happening with increasing frequency (three times yesterday!). The panel makes a noise when it goes (I think it is a constant tone rather than bleeps, it doesn't seem to go on for very long), and the power light perhaps isn't showing during this, none of the zone lights flash (having read your forum this morning I realise I should have paid more attention to bleeps, lights etc..). If I enter the code and reset, the alarm returns to its normal deactived state.

I haven't tried to set the alarm in the last few weeks in case it goes off.

I took the front cover off yesterday, shook the battery (very high tech), then put the cover back on. It hasn't gone off again so far. Could I have sorted it by resetting the tamper spring in the cover? Do I need a new battery, and if so can I do this myself before xmas? Of do I need it serviced properly?

Thanks in advance - and excellent forum, now know how to change the code.

Sounds like a duff battery and/or an intermittant tamper fault , both of which could be easily sorted by a local alarm company. The battery should be changed every 4-5 years approx.Get it sorted and start using it again. :)

BTW there is a page in the gallery(under control panels) that shows how to change the code on both versions of the Veritas panel.

Hi Cathy

I would be guessing if I said you have cured your tamper fault.

Thats the problem with an intermittant fault it doesnt apear when you want it to.

I would reccomend that you have it serviced, especially if it hasnt been serviced for a while, theres more to servicing an alarm system than replacing the battery(theres a lot more that can go wrong than the battery)
