Honeywell GT20/40 Communications Module misleading technical overview

I'm never had in my hands this module and there is not much great info o the net abut it. But let me know if I'm really have no clue what it is.

From very poor quality picture on manufactures website I can see that it has no Ethernet port, I don't believe that it has external header for ethernet socket, that you have to buy separately. But in description its clearly stating that is "Ethernet" and in some lines even mentioned "LAN".

Only what I see is that manufacture this size has being lazy to make two different descriptions for two very different devices.

So before I extend my complain let me know if I'm just wrong here and I need to go and review Wikipedia what's relates LAN and Ethernet? That's the problem, it's not clear. And I can't confirm your clearingnes until I see proper pictures and descriptions. It's fine for those who have some experience with it, or for resellers as they can sell it either way or then sell something else if needs be.

 

This was an issue with the designers for a couple of projects already, but this is only where I participated. They stated that this was what I needed and I 'knew' that it was not.

No it's not Security warehouse complain. It's general, applies to everyone who copy paste the same description from Honeywell website. :)

The gt40 has Ethernet (RJ 45 onboard) and it also has GPRS for IP traffic with appropriate data SIM and GSM for SMS.   The gt20 has Ethernet only.  The modules were a collaboration between Chiron and Honeywell. 

 

I have a GT40 on the shelf for development purposes. I wouldn't advise buying one as they're not great.   A better option is the IP module - either Selfmon vmod or Honeywell V4.16 module and buy a cheap 4G router to provide a backup IP path in the event broadband goes down. In fact, unbreakable broadband and a UPS on the router is a good option.

An option but not the same as polled dual path signalling. I know selfmon does this just dont want it to look like signal availability is the same as use able path

I was meaning a good option versus the gt40 - which will rarely (if ever) be installed as graded polled dual path.
