SteveDaBeard Posted February 10 Posted February 10 What is the advantage of using CAT6 cable over CAT5 for an IP camera system please" Also at what sort of length run should I be concerned about voltage drop please? I don't think my runs will exceed 40, possibly 50 metres? Again to run IP cameras. Thanks again for any useful comments Quote
sixwheeledbeast Posted February 10 Posted February 10 There isn't assuming it's decent Cat5e. Ethernet goes ~100m, what you can power depends on kit. You could use a midspan if more power is required. Quote

The uneducated will say it makes a difference it won't. If you plan on breaking gigabit per channel I'd like to know how Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

james.wilson Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I'd prefer a cable for all options. I don't see the advantage of CAT6 for cctv over CAT5. I'd also suggest that even if cctv per channel needs more that 1gbs that CAT5 will be 10gig. Copper wins imo over short distances over fibre. I reakon that's true for my lifetime Quote securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.
