Scantronic Chime question

Hi,

Is it possible to have a detector that is configured to chime but not raise an alarm when the panel is set? I would like a chime if a gate is opened but not raise an alarm if the alarm is set, e.g. postman. I can't see a zone type that would do this. The 9851 has a thing called a technical alarm which is close but would be a pain in practice.

Thanks,

John

Why not just run the circuit through a relay with a piezo buzzer?

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

How about setting it up as a chime zone on its own partition?

I know this can be done with the Bosch Galaxy and Gardtec panels as the zone can be proggedas a spy or log zone. Not so sure about the Scanny panel, I havent played with one since the 9100

Norman, it needs to be part of the alarm system for various reasons.

Lurch, not a bad idea but all four partitions are in use (outbuildings etc).

Peter, yes odd but the Scanny doesn't seem to have a log or spy zone. Closest thing is a technical alarm but its not quite right - a simple chime only zone would be fine but can't see how with a Scanny.

Hmm, knew it seemed too easy!

Can't you just set it as a chime zone, but omit it from all partition set options? (That's a stab in the dark as I haven't done much with Scannys recently!

You can do this with a relay powered from a set+ output, I could draw it out now, but I'm not sure what you want to achieve. Why does it have to be part of the alarm, but inactive when set?

If its a gate then Norms idea would be the best and you could have an in-line switch in the house if you wanted.

I dont know about your scanny panel, but with some other makes chime wont work if the panel is part set, even if the zone is omitted.

Program a spare output as open/close and use it to drive a relay to keep the zone closed when the system is set, of course you'd have to keep the gate closed while system was setting but once it was set you could do what you like.

Crappy but it would work.
