Wendy Whitworth Posted Tuesday at 11:30 Posted Tuesday at 11:30 Hello, I am hoping that someone can help me. We have a Concept 6 house alarm that we inherited. About 8 years ago we went on holiday and it went off and the neighbours couldn’t get hold of us for the code so they called an engineer to come and stop it. He told them that he would have to disarm it and it would never work again. It no longer has lights on the control pad and it has not been triggered during the last 8 years even when the power has gone down. I recently had an electrician in and I asked him if he could remove the old motion sensor from the living room as it has broken and is dangling down. He said he didn’t want to touch it as even though the alarm was disarmed, cutting the wire may still trigger it. Is this true or am I safe to just cut the wire? Thanks Quote
sixwheeledbeast Posted Tuesday at 14:07 Posted Tuesday at 14:07 Possibly but it's hard to say if it was fully decommissioned correctly when they came out to silence it all those years ago. The alarm wires should be low voltage so your not likely to get a shock from a PIR, if that's what you mean by safe. I have been to a job were someone had suppose to "decommission" a system, all they did was remove the power to the internal siren, bell trig and keypad... PIR's and bell were still powered. Quote
PeterJames Posted Tuesday at 17:43 Posted Tuesday at 17:43 Alarms are designed to warn you if something is tampered with, and cutting wires can resut in tears. It sounds like the engineer fully decommissioned the system, but we cant tell 100% without looking for ourselves, or speaking with the chap that did it. My gut says you're probably okay to cut the wires, but please dont blame me if my gut is wrong. Quote
