If the tamper switch is definately down then it should reset using your user code unless:

1. The alarm system used to be monitored and is on engineer reset for tampers

2. The tamper switch is faulty

3. The tamper switch is not seated correctly

If you are sure that the tamper switch is down and seated correctly and the system wont reset then you need to call out an engineer.

Its very likely that the engineer code was changed by the installer, and we wont know what he changed it to. The engineer code can be defaulted providing that the codes are not locked but we cannot tell you how to do this as we have no way of knowing who you are and if you are the owner of the system (its a security industry thing)

As you have to call an engineer to fix the problem, it would be sensible to have the system serviced at the same time

It will be engineer reset , scanny has this in menus to have certain elements reset by different codes, like other manufacturers , from memory it can also have a bypass method cat remember that how tho

Hardly anyone locks those panels, except people like me lol

I did a 1st stage reset - found installation instructions online by searching for "Scantronic programming guide" on google, which talks you through how to do this.

Error code reset, all working fine now.

Theres no need for a service, or calling an engineer etc. Its a very simple process to follow. You dont need to re-programme the system either with a 1st stage reset for this system.

Alan it will need a service I'm not saying you can't do it yourself but if you never service it will fail at some point. Do some preventative checks

Sometimes its best to let people find out stuff for themselves. When his alarm plays up at silly o clock in the morning and all his neighbours are pissed off with him he might remember the advice we gave, and understand why we gave it.

@PeterJames

I didnt say I would not get a service.

But when someone comes here and asks for advice, and people start diverting off topic and saying "get a service", rather than offering useful advice, it defeats the purpose of a forum called "DIY installers".

If you dont have anything useful to say to help with the issue, probably best you just keep quiet. Rather than give useless advice that does not answer the question, but rather gives your "opinion" on what should be done, which is probably because you are trying to drum up business for yourself because you are probably a trader in the business.

All the **** about "cant help" or its "security industry thing" is a load of rubbish, since everything is readily available on the internet, and lots of other forums, and even other posts on this website, provide more useful advice.
I will get a service when I want to, or feel like I need to.
