Be careful brand new houses will require the smoke detection to be to B.S.5839 part 4 2002 (Nov release 2004)

I am fairly certain that the building inspector will ask you to do it again properly.

first off they are not brand new houses.... they are gutted and re-done

secondly i would presume that these smokes comply with all standards ?

but thanks for the warning i will look into it more

@ Alarmguard yes i am in north london that may be what it is then ?

i will get a picture next week when i go back to the house of the alarm

12 volt smokes wired to an intruder alarm dont pass the Regs in London, they need to be either mains fed with a battery back up and interlinked or as Pete says BS5839:2002 system.

Do you you look after the systems once you have done them Maintenance/ faults etc?

If its a new electrical installation in an old building they will need to be done as Pete says.

A refurb of any major proportions needs to comply with building regs.

To do it to the regs and also have the smokes connected to the alarm system you can use a relay base on mains\capacitor backup smokes. I usually use the EI range.

indeed but i am not sure on the regualtions on smoke alarms its been 8 years since i attended college... and we always have properties correctly inspected, and as you are all aware i have never used a 12 volt smoke thats what i was asking they have always been mains and interconnected... so thats why they pass ;)

anyway i wanted to tell you all the good news i have just recieved (lurch you will be so proud of me)

i will be sitting a training course for Global galaxy training session with VCL in the next few weeks.

i am taking this seriously and asking you guys the questions helps me to learn as much as possible.

here is another question i intend to alarm all my windows (with the gadgets lurch said) and doors would it still be important to have a movement detector ?

or should i go for something else ?
