Guest Brian_G Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Had some quotes for an alarm system. Two questions for the forum: Should the wiring be around door frames or under floor. One company has said it would "conceal" white wires around door frames. Other said they go into the upstiars and drop the wires down through the floor joists. Also, should I go for all PIR to be dual tech(?) or just normal PIRs. Both quoted for a dual tech to be in the kitchen but for everywhere else to have normal PIRS. Thanks
Brian c Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Wiring should be concealed and out of view wherever possible. Wiring around your door frames does not count as concealed! Stay away from that company as they are just trying it on. The other company sounds like they will professionally install your alarm system and hide the cables from view wherever possible. If they both recommend a Dualtech in the kitchen, there is probably a reason for it. Do you have an AGA stove or conservatory extended from kitchen? These can cause false alarms with normal PIR's. Dualtech's offer higher immunity to false alarms in less stable environments. Get 3 quotes, this will better inform you of your options and give you more choice. Post your location and somone from the forum will likely be able to give you a third quote. If you don't know......ask.
Paul Giles Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Round door frames? Didn't know Modern Alarms were still quoting? name and shame the architrave boys!!!! Are both firms approved companies? Also, go for a monitored option, not much more money and a whole lot better. Who takes notice of a siren these days? Chris Teague Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Slasher & Basher Alarms Ltd Yep, still plenty of them about sadly. I once saw a system with 6 cables all run like tram lines around decorative coving, one a grey screened data It was a work of art though Yep, at least 3 quotes & monitored for a Police response & certificate of compliance, so that's NSI or SSAIB if your insurers are an issue. Any decent firm will hide the cables. May take a bit longer & may cost a bit more, but worth it & we've all got a few tricks for hiding cables. Post your town / city & someone on this forum will probably be able to help you out.
