Guest ceejay Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 I've recently moved into a house with an Optima XM alarm fitted. I have an operation manual but cannot make any sense out of it. When I try to follow the instructions it doesn't do what it's supposed to. I have no previous experience of alarms and have no idea where to begin. How do I go about clearing the settings of the previous occupier and inputting my own codes? Can anyone help me and talk me through it from scratch? All help and advice gratefully accepted. Thanks ceejay
norman Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 See other post. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Guest ceejay Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Press prog followed by current code then press 8 then enter new code, press reset twice and your done.Pete 39810 Pete I've done as you say. But now when I put in new code to set it the alarm begins to sound and zone 3 lights up. I should point out that I've had several goes in the past at trying to get to grips with the alarm system and now I find that the 'power' light, 'tamper' light, and 'day' light are always lit up. Do I need to do something about cancelling the 'tamper' light? Am I right in thinking that to set the alarm I key in my code numbers only and nothing else, before or after the code like pressing set? Any ideas? ceejay
Guest Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Do I need to do something about cancelling the 'tamper' light? 39906 Yes, call an engineer! There's a fault on your system somewhere that needs sorting before you can set it, assuming that pressing reset several times doesn't clear it.

According to the paperwork left behind it was fitted in 1992 and last serviced 1997. ceejay
Guest ceejay Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 A decent engineer will tell you the score, it is likely that the battery is u/s and the charging circuit if your unlucky. But without looking its difficult to tell, the panel is easily replaced though and the existing circuits and bell may be good ? again without looking. I would get the YP out or post your general location and someone here will help. Pete 39988 What is u/s and YP short for? I'm a newbie when it comes to this sort of jargon ceejay
