Guest Guest147 Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 From previous emails I am now beginning to understand the importance of keeping enginneering codes confidential. My first alarm was one fitted DIY style by an electrictian so I had all the codes and set it up myself using the instruction book. Having recently moved house I was surprised to find the alarm in my new house was a monitored alarm system with //.National Installer.// and I had to pay £80 to even get a user code from the company. I'm slow to go back to the company as they were unhelpful around setting up a bells only system for me and said it would cost a lot of additional money to remove the police monitoring system the previous owners had. Sounded like a scam to me. So I figured if I could get the enginneer code I could reset the alarm to it's default and set it up myself.... Don't get annoyed yet... I can see from your posts that these alarms are far more complicated than the one I previously had and all manner of things can go wrong. So whats my point - well I did a web seach and found a site that covers my alarm system and lists the enginneers code. Sacriledge! :!: I assume if I used this code on my my alarm chances are it will not work. I'm slow to try it as I've already had to disconnect the bell...you've guessed it I set off the tamper alarm I hope you can understand that I'm not trying to avoid using the experts and paying money I just don't want to be taken for a ride. Help Anna
Guest Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 In what area are you located at? (And here in coldshire girls usually don't mind a ride.. )
Chris Teague Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 Anna, post your location (town / city) & one of the forum members will probably be able to help you at a much more realistic price. (Not knocking //.National Installer.//) If you've tampered the system, it will probably need an Engineer reset & should be carried out by a professional. If there's no rental dispute with //.National Installer.// & you own the system, the system can be defaulted & the communications side disabled if you want bells only. Most firms would normally be happy to take such a system over & offer you maintenance & monitoring (probably cheaper) should you wish? Taking the cover off also exposes you to mains voltage, although you probably know that anyway.
