Guest mcc505 Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 Hello, I have just moved into a new house with an existing alarm system. I have replaced the front and back doors and forgot to remove the door detectors. Hence I have no alarm on the front and back door and if you set the alarm it goes off straight away. Can the door detectors be replaced with new ones? And if so do I need special detectors or can I simply use a universal type detector. I am a complete novice who desent understand the complexities of alarms and any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks
FASTCAR Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 If you click on the detector link on the home page , you will see various door switches. These are readily available , but I would advise that you get someone experienced to install them correctly and give your system a check over. If you post your location , there may be someone from the forum who can assist. Regards.
Guest Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 Agreed, you can do more harm than good by DIYing it if you're unfamiliar with alarm systems.
Deltaseven Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Did you remove the door FRAMES as well, or take a device off the frame? If not, you just need to replace the magnets, and install it in exactly the same place as the old ones. (But this could be difficult if the door type has been changed.) D7
