Guest andy31 Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Howdie, I have recently moved into my flat, which had an alarm already installed. Today, as I tried to set it, it just beeped at me. It wont allow me to reset it and when I press any button it just beeps. Is there anything I can do myself, or do I have to call a specialist to deal with it? Any advice much appreciated.
norman Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 It all depends how many beeps, count them and let us know. But a favourite would be IF YOU ARE COMPETENT!! to check that there is mains at the unit Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

norman Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 By the sounds of it you may have the wrong code, Post your location and I'm sure someone will be able to help. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

The manual states that that a maintenance alrm can be set by the installer. Could this have been done to force the owner to go back to them for help further down the line?
norman Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 This is correct but I would get a couple of other quotes, they may have also locked the engineer code in which case the panel may need unlocking, although this is usually uneconomical, you might as well get a new control. Thanks again
norman Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Relatively inexpensive although I don't know the exact price, but obviously not much more than the inconvenience and cost of sending your existing one away for defaulting. Get a couple of quotes and ideally a maintenance agreement. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
