What are the pro's and cons of wired v wirefree? I am trying to understand the trends in the market. Is wireless becoming more popular? is there a system that is reliable? What % of your installs are wirelss?

If you are able to help i will appreciate.

Thanks.

p.s. A great site - thanks

Hi David and welcome to the forum. Wired vs. Wireless is an on going argument on hear some will say steer well away from wireless and some will say that it has become more reliable than it use to be. Personally I have no problem with wireless technology and encourage it in the professional domestic market but I would say it has to be professional kit and not DIY stuff you can get from the local DIY stores. But I will leave the CAN open for others to jump on board and forward there views. ;):ninja:

Agree,

A professional installer can put a wired system in without you seeing the wires and without a mess, you then get a wired system which is 99.9% reliable, but if you take out a service contract then it becomes 101% reliable with a professioanl installer at the other end of the phone if you have a problem.

Thank you gentlemen. I detect a prejudice against wirelsss (****??/!!!!) - is this because of technology or profitability. I am trying to understand why, if the performance is as good without wires, why have wires?

Aren't we all comfortable with wirelss TV remotes now when the first ones were wired? It would be unthinkable to have a wired TV remote!

Thanks guys - appreciate your comments.

When yout TV Remote doesnt work you press the button again or check the batteries.

You might not have the luxury of asking a burglar to open your door again to send another signal, and the batteries will run out exactly when you need them to work!

A good wireless system will cost as much if not more than a hardwired system and will still be less reliable.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

As most wireless systems have upto 5 years battery life and will tell the panel when the battery is runing low I don't think this is a problem :P

Its funny how 99% of the post say wireless systems are **** but they don't say how many they have fitted, what class of system they were, what problems they have had..etc, etc, etc :boxing:

There are pro's and con's to all systems...

On a side note, How many people are using wireless networks in their house/office?

Which can be a far more a secuity risk than the wirefree alarm system!!!

Don't you love a good argue

There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.

Wireless has a tendancy to get interference from cordless phones, wireless LANS or other wireless systems. It can also suffer from atmospheric conditions effecting the signal.

Wall, metal and trees can all block or weaken the signal too.

Wireless is more expensive to buy but much quicker to fit, unless you have to wire it up to a power supply. Profitability comes into it only because the engineer will be called back more often with a wireless system!

On the plus side, it is quick to fit, usually. Unless you have to spend you time re-siting the wireless transmitters & recievers to get a signal.

If I have any problems with my CCTV equipment, it is usually the wireless systems that gives cause for customers to ring up!
