The company I work for will only install wireless "audible only" systems in domestic properties. The systems are fine - no more broblems than a wired system.

I think unitl you have installed a few systems using good quality kit you will realise

it isn't - how shall I put Crapp!

It isnt till you have one fail to operate on a burglary till you lose your trust in them.

In that case Pete,I would assume that you have gone round all your old "WIRELESS " systems and changed them free of charge as you couldn't have any of your customers having a system in that you dont have any trust in ;) after all you have your companies reputation to think of. :roflmao:

Seriously though, why did the system fail, was it maintained and what practices and procedures did you put in place to ensure that none of your other systems were affected. What wireless system was it and how old?

Well you guys are fantastic!

I really thought I had stumbles across a gem in this site - and now you have all confirmed it. I really seem to have asked a question that divides the community!

Thanks for each and every comment - and the fascinating humour as well!!

So very informing to hear the prejudices and opinions.

Rich... I am surprised no-one asked this question before now!

I am researching the market for a "major" player who is to launch in the UK. The product, according to informed experts (NOT ME), has all of the early wirefree faults eradicated and uses technology that has been proven in the field. Hopefully that is informative, if still a little nebulus for obvious reasons. In the near future I may be in a postion to invite some of you gentleman to review the product and see how valid some of the prejudices are.

I really do appreciate the views posted on here. Thank you.

Sorry but there`s always gonna be doubts in my mind where wireless is concerned..!

Think me gonna take variety of doorbell's etc. with me to IFSEC and have some laughs at rep's expence.

:roflmao:

And you who say that wired are not so good as wreless since they have cables that can be cut of:

Take sidecutters and wirefree doorbell's and try your luck.

:P

For me, the only fair trial would be for all of us to carry out at least a years multiple real-life style installations with every possible problem you could imagine presented to the system. Not that it would be expected to survive being blatted with a taxi band emisison adjacent to the control unit, just to see how it reacted and how quickly.

To the guys who do have test boards in the workshop - do you try an create problems such as RF emissions and blocking etc...? Whilst there has been a lot of development in DSP etc.. since I was doing RF comms, and even in the MOD I saw some pretty impressive gear to say the least, I'm still on the sceptic side of the room. And thats despite having played around with DIY stuff like Powermax and in all honesty not being able to artifically create too many unreasonable problems.

Stu.

So, I've decided to take my work back underground.... to stop it falling into the wrong hands

Gosh, been away for a short while, and I can see this has produced some good discussion here! And as to what experience I have in the wireless field, yes I sell the cheaper end of the wireless spectrum with 100m range, and yes, the customers plonk them in themselves. But it is demanded by the customer so I have to sell it as it is offered by my competitors as well - however I always try and upsell to a wired product if I can as I know I will get no callbacks from that. I nearly always do with wireless.

The stuff with the 1 to 30 mile radius is more than my customers will want to pay!

But looking at wireless PC networks and the latest wireless internet connections available in Libraries and so on, I can see that the more professional end of the market should be benefiting from that R & D from the PC industry to produce problem free wireless equipment.

Yes, wireless technology is moving on and will soon be the norm for internet connections I suspect, which leads me to believe that the security industry will not be far behind, particularly when IP cameras and software are more usable and cheaper.

Your customers are wierd...

To produce problem free wireless equipment is impossible. 10Mbps goes in any kind of wire (even in UK-type alarm cable :roflmao: ) and even 100Mbps _quite_ easily. How fast are wireless connections at the moment??? (this isn't a question really. just to awake people..)

Norm for internet connection???? Maybe after I can teleport me to UK through digital connection..

IP cameras more usable???!? o'ou. Tell me your solution about the bandwith and cable length's..
