ye its the new shape astra and it was deadlocked but they smashed the lock on the drivers side and the central locking opened all the doors!

i think that vans should be more secure so that the back has no window and the locking is linked to the normal central locking and also has a seperate heavy duty lock like them found on site cabins and then we could leave our tools in them and sleep easy at night!

anyone else got any other ideas how to make them more secure? im thinking of getting one of them steel van boxes for the back of each of our vans, has anyone else got one or seen one, if so are they anygood

How **** is that. I thought deadlocked meant deadlocked. I always deadlock mine even if its for a minute. Im going to link the van alarm to the house alarm and flood but thats no good if im away from home. Going to see about a hinged metal lockable lid to go over the magority of kit fixed to the steel bulkhaed.

I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.

You get what you pay for. Think about it, there has to be some electrical connection that opens and closes the deadlocks and is managed centrally.

Either that or very expensive remote-controlled deadlocks on every lock.

My car has a pretty good halfway house, but it's a bit more costly that an Astra van. The deadlocking and ignition are totally separately coded using radio and proximity chips respectively - getting pretty standard these days I think? (That gave me a problem when I had to get new keys for it - the garage reprogrammed all the new keys for unlocking/locking but only did one for the engine management, so only that key would actually start the thing! banghead )

Also, if you unlock manually ONLY the door you unlock will open, not the boot etc., unless you go through a special coded sequence. But I guess if you knew which wires to meddle with, and could find them, you'd get anywhere. :ninja:

Theres no need for a micro switch on the drivers door lock for a start if youve got remote central locking all the control gear can be hidden deep in the vehicle. No need for a key to open the locks.

Bristor systems do van cages and secure bulkheads, there on the net.

Ive been to the vauxhall main dealers this week and you can get a drivers side door handle with out the lock barrel so its the same as the passinger side. Do you think this would help. There is no replacement for the rear barrel but i think when its deadlocked the barrel just spins round if forced. Im gonna take off me drivers door panel and see about fitting the new handle with out barrel when i get a few minutes.

I was thinking that for the two years ive had the van i have never used the key so do away with the barrel. Ill get a spare key aswell. On a risk basis i think i would be happier with out a barrel.

The battery tabs break off the astra central locking keyfobs at the point where they are soldered onto the pcb. If this was to happen without a lock barrel you would be in trouble

Call your self's alarm engineers? If you can protect a customers house why cant you protect your own van? Slap in a duel tech in the back and another in the front. A bonnet switch would be good! The door switches are already fitted so use them! How about glass break detectors? Fix a control panel in a secure steel box in the back, RKP in the front with a 10 second max entry/exit time. Backup battery cos they may disconnect the vehicle battery. If you fit a radio system you can even arm and disarm remotley with a key fob.

No I havent tried it myself but my work car (A Ford Escort Estate) is full of ****. Ie, mcdonalds mcrubbish. Happy meal mctoys (from the kids - not me!!). Dead batteries. Off cuts of sharp mettal capping strip and twin and earth. Screw drivers and drill bits, cardboard boxes, Bin bags (empty cos i aint got round to cleaning the mess up!) Empty fizzy drinks cans and other **** aswell -so if any one wants to break in to my vehicle - they take their life in their own hands And anything they get away with, they damn well deserve to keep! Plus there will be plenty of blood left behind for DNA samples.
