hello all!

i am considering starting up a cctv installation service, at first for domestic and small businesses, at the moment i am looking into other companies doing the same in my area and the prices and services they charge. so my question is how much would you charge for your average A: a 4 camera setup for a small business(shop) with 4 internal cameras, a 4ch DVR and monitor. And B: a four camera system for a home, 4 external cameras, a 4ch DVR and no monitor. I understand there are many different types of equipment ranging prices and quality but im just talking a no thrills average system. Perhaps you could list the equipment and costs of the equipment. Also who are your trade supplies that you use? thanks for any replies and help.

Strange request Joe, especially as no one here knows you.

Best thing would be to aim for a Trade Membership, these are the sort of things we`d be willing to discuss in there, but sorry not in the open public forums.

Maybe you have had a quote for such a system off a CCTV co and want to know how much the equipment is TRADE so you cant nail the price down.

just a thaught..

It doesnt quite work that way, and there is no such thing as an average price.

It all depends on what the customer expects from the end results.

Budget can come into it a little but the way I see it if you cant afford to get the right result, then why waste money trying to with kit that wont make it.

For example a guy thats getting his car damaged at night would need a camera system that can see the car, and the capture a good image of the vandal.

There would be little point in it otherwise a system that just records someone damaging a car is not much help (he already knows whats happening he wants evidence of who,s doing it).

So lense's and lighting play a big part, and lense's and lighting make big differences in price. The camera will also make a big difference in the end result, and quality and prices of cameras vary enormosley.

So there are no ball park figures, or average prices as no two jobs are the same.

As for dvrs theres alot of real dodgy systems out there from the far east, and if its sound too cheap to be any good it probably is.

Joe,

Your question sounds like you are selling sets of CCTV and trying to fit the set to fulfill the needs of your customer. This is what most of our competitors salesmen do with intruder alarms as well. If the customer is buying quality (even in design and labour if not hardware aswell) it is easy to bail out our competitors.

I rather sell picture where needed not the camera.

Pricing you have to do yourself but my advise is that you use reasonable profit to be able to maintain high quality of your labour and equipment. It doesn't help anyone (especially yourself) if you start to sell only with price. Generally when starting your business you have to first do very much homework studying in what you are really going to dive. If you haven't started ur business yet i suggest that you first visit IFSEC in Birmingham in May(you need at least three to four days to be able to evaluate enough).

Before going to IFSEC I suggest you visit very excellent site.

ok then maby that wasnt the best question for me to ask! i am serious about starting the cctv installation company and i am NOT trying to "nail down" the price of some one else!

so can any one give me any advice on starting up in the cctv busimess. where can i learn the trade? i have found a company called Tavcom who do a range of training courses, does any body know any where else similar. Also where can i find trade supppliers? do installers not hold stock and asses the job before ordering in the equipment needed for the job?

thanks

Alarming response, and I hope what your wanting to do you don't achieve very soon.

Firstly, Tavcom is the place to go for training if you are serious, I suspect you should be spending between £2000 and £3000 on courses to start with.

Do you have any cctv installation experience? What has given you the impression that CCTV is the thing you want to be doing right now?

A few of us here only deal with CCTV, myself included. It sounds like you are wanting to install cheap rubbish to make a few quick pounds, and ARE actually looking to undercut our experience, knowledge and professionalism with a few crappy cameras and a cheap nasty DVR.

For trade equipment you should have an account with someone like Norbain.

Your initial question comes across like you have absolutely no experience with the security trade or installations.

I for one will probably not be giving you any advice on the questions you are asking (Not until you have a tavcom certificate or 2).

Good luck with whatever you decide to do but I would think carefully about the questions you ask in the future (If your not wanting to be flamed).

no offence mate but if you do start your own company please dont call it joes security services because it sounds cheap and a little tacky, i personally wouldnt use the services of a company with that name, no offence! try something like JSS systems.
