Guest mmh Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Sounds like you have a high resistance fault on one of the legs A or B. (Semi disconnection) Have you tried reporting your line as faulty. You can report the fault online.BT FaultsI doubt the Unit has been damaged by a meggar as the lightning arrestor would of gone in the NTE and you would have no dial tone or Voltage. 48690[/snapback] Apparently BT upped the voltage on my line, so I've been told. This was after it was reported. I'm just trying to understand what might have caused the fault as I believe the redcare STU units are meant to be very reliable as by their nature being used to monitor valuable assets etc they need to be so.

The voltage will never go up if its a PSTN line 54 Volts
Smart Electrics Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Agh just noticed you said you have had extension installed of the master. Was this done by yourself or BT. Like I said HR diss. Red care is chirping a lot because the line is experiencing disconnections temporarily. If you have red Care you should be covered by total care. If you report it and the faults operator or system does not see a fault push it through and explain you are willing to pay for call out if it is proved to be your fault. I am sure it will be in the network. What does your alarm company say.

I'm a network designer so not much chance of me going wrong with a simple extension, Only connected to the user attachable part of an NTE5 socket. I think BT did increase the gain and all has been fine since. I'm not quite sure what increasing the gain means. Thanks
Smart Electrics Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Gain increase is like turning the volume up from the exchange. It is used on long cable runs when customers complain about low volumes on speech. I was not suggesting that you have caused the fault yourself as merely suggesting that while you had the face plate that you didn

Or do you have a problem with what they are telling you?
Smart Electrics Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 I agree with Colin this is realy your alarm providers problem

Smart Electrics Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Your welcome. If it is still a problem report it to BT
