Magnetic Door Contact

We're also assuming there isn't a 12V aux supply at the contacts. If you are unsure, might it be wise to call an engineer who can 100% ascertain the correct connections before we blow up the panel?

When you say bell rings, do you mean it sounds once, or just keeps ringing, or some other noise?

Now now!  Breathe deep.

As we have said a few times, there is no set standard for the wire colours on a intruder installation.  If I was to guess, I would probably be wrong.  We can not give you a definate answer.

Do you know if the zones are still enabled in the software of the alarm system?  You may reconnect them correctly only to find that they are omitted (to avoid tamper).  What panel is it?

there are two PIR's and two zones, the PIR's operate fine (blinking away when anything crosses them)

the box is a Logic 4 (a key alarm) so no fancy keypads or anything here

essentially the alarm would appear to be sound and I just know that once I've wired the door contacts up correctly everything will be fine

to date when I have wired them up, the bell rings when the box is set to OFF position and stops ringing when you set it to TEST

another variation when I swapped some wires round was when it didn't ring when in the OFF position but started to ring the minute I opened the front door ??

I'm so close yet...(cough)....so far

Just a stupid suggestion from an amateur.

Why not look at the other end of the wires inside the panel and see what they're connected to??

That's assuming you can trace it somehow and open the panel SAFELY.

As has been said many times, there's mains power in there and it can kill. :!:

An engineer with appropriate meters would be able to sort it out pretty quickly of course. :P

Also, the security installer web site shows you how to wire a door contact.

But, as there's no standard for colours, there's a (low) limit to what people here can tell you. Apply logic, or get an expert in. :ninja:

BOBO,

The Logic 4 rings when in off when it is in tamper, the only thing i could suggest you try is removing the panel cover and looking at what colour wires are connected to where.

Be warned, mains is inside.

look at the pcb, where the word "timed" is printed on the pcb note the colour of the wires, those go to the 2 silver screws in the door contact. (i'm assuming this is your exit entry door)

no worries, once we work out what colour goes where we can sort this out for you.

yeah....may be a problem there as I don't have the advantage of knowing how the original contacts were wired.....hence my query

on the front contact...the bell rings when I pair the red and black together ?

49379[/snapback]

if a bell/alarm sounds when red / black touched together (i think more likely it sounds when you part them though) then this is most likely the tamper pair - ie the pair you twist together in each contact and put onto the copper terminals, logic then decrees (at least on the 4 core and you would assume the same colours on the 6 core) that blue and yellow are the contacr pair ie you put the blue onto one silver screw and the yellow onto the other.

On info given that is what i would advise/surmise

good luck

This is an Experienced guess, but like others have said every company uses different colours, try red and yellow on the silver screws and twist blue and black together and fit to one of the brass screws.

If the alarm sounds when you twist the blue and black together imagine that you never read this post :D

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
