Hi,

I want a simple intruder alarm installed, and I've had a quote for £350 to supply and install a Pyronix Paragon. I've found a few posts dotted around that really seem to slate Pyronix.

I simply want a relatively cheap alarm system that can set upstairs and downstairs separately. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to security system - can anyone tell me whats so bad about Pyronix? Does anyone have anything good to say about this model or should I really steer clear of this?

Thanks,

Matt

To be honest I didnt even know it was still made!

Basically there are better quality panels about than them anyway so if your man is quoting for a Paragon then I suspect he's not too up to date, or particularly professional.

Try getting a couple more quotes.

I would look elsewhere to be honest. Pyronix panels are ok but i would be wary of some selling a paragon as they are not made anymore. Get three quotes for installers in the yellow pages and get back to us. Or post your location and someone might be able to help you .

Matt, post your location & one of the forum members will probably be near enough to give you a good quote.

Hi,

Thanks for all the quick responses.

I live in Nottingham and have:

downstairs: hallway, lounge, dining room, kitchen

upstairs: 2 bedrooms, bathroom

I think I need PIRS in all downstairs rooms and one on the landing upstairs.

cheers,

Matt

Can anyone shed some light as to what is bad about these panels? As far as I can see, if you can set it and unset it, and it makes a noise when a burglar comes in, its fine. What am I not considering? :-)

Matt i personally dont dislike the paragon but it does have its flaws.

1) All in sundry used to be able to get them from car boots.

2) As soon there is a voltage spike they crash and go into full alarm for 8 hours.

3) Every burglar who knows his worth can crash one to default and rob your house.

I will write another post when i can think of some positives from the user point of view.
