Scantronic entry timer problem

Hi,

I inherited a Scantronic 9800 alarm system when I moved house. The alarm has been working fine but I want to add a new PIR to the system to protect another room. I do not know the engineer's code so I acquired the installer's manual and learned how to reset the NVM so that I could reprogram the system. I am now trying to reprogram the system as it was before I add the new PIR but I'm having a problem...

The alarm is to be set/unset by an entry/exit timer. There is a PIR by the door I enter/exit by so I reasoned this (zone) must be set to "entry route". I have set the entry and exit durations to 60 seconds. A walk test shows all the sensors correctly identified. The system arms ok. The problem is when I walk in front door and trigger the PIR on the alleged entry route, the alarm immediately sounds - there is no "beep-beep..." entry timer. So, I've obviously missed something. I've looked at the manual again and again and cannot suss it out.

Here's an interesting thing. If I program all sensors to also arm in "part set B" and configure entry mode for B as "entry timer" and arm the system with part set B, then everything works perfectly. So, this says to me the sensors are programmed ok but I'm missing something like "entry mode" = "timer" for A. But I cannot see any setting which tells the system to use an entry timer for a full set A. I've assumed it did not need one if you set one or more sensors on the "entry route" but I'm not so sure now and because part set B/C have an entry mode setting.

This sensor is on zone 3 so it was programmed with the following command: 0 3 6 (6 = entry route). The panel confirms its on the entry route by flashing "Er".

The system was working fine before I reset the NVM and none of the hardware/cables have changed so obviously I'm not programming it correctly.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Chris

Unless you leave through the front door the pir will pick you up and trigger an instant alarm. If the door is opened first then the pir will go into entry timed.

You can't stand in the hall and open the door as the pir will pick you up!

dinefwr, there is no door contact. I want the PIR in the hall by the front door to start the entry timer when its triggered (i.e. when I come in the door). This is how it used to work but it is not causing the entry timer to start - instead it triggers full alarm so I've obviously not programmed the 9800 correctly.

Peter, so are you saying I should set the PIR on the entry route as Final Exit instead of Entry Route?

pir would definately be FE (final exit). Not ideal though, best way is having your front door fitted with a door contact, but if not, that will work.

What about the contact on the door to comply with 4737. Then the PIR would be on an entry route zone which is key 6 after entering zone No

What a great website and bunch of guys - setting the PIR as "Final Exit" made it work!

It seems odd to me that you set the sensor to Final Exit even though I'm not using a final exit to arm the system and the PIR is on the entry route - I assumed it had to be set to Entry Route.

No idea why previous occupiers/installer didn't install a door contact but now that I can program this thing I will be able to upgrade it.

Thanks for everyones help.

Final Exit = last zone closed or first zone triggered when entering the premises.

Entry Route = any zone en route to the keypad that is triggered AFTER a final exit zone is first triggered.

Hope this clarifies things a little.
