Bosch Abacus Wireless

We've been using the Bosch 6/14 Abacus for our wireless installs for about 3 years. Don't do too much of them, but more as time goes by. I have read the in depth comments posted about a year back. My view is that if a customer insists on no wires - then there is kit available to accommodate. Although some of you say that there is always a way to run cables, when hard wood flooring and new decorations come up, it isn't always possible, and sometimes clients just don't want cables regardless of any rational. Yes, if wireless didn't exist there would have to be a way, but it does exist, and if we don't sell it to the customer then someone else will.

My question (and you can email me the answer if you don't want to make it public): can anyone tell me if they have experienced real problems with the Bosch wireless? We recently had a problem where post install, the receiver intermittently became jammed by external sources, completely out of our control. This is the first problem we have experienced with the Bosch, but has caused me concern for future installations.

As you all know, most manufacturers now offer hybrid panels. We use GardTec for all our hard wired installs and they have finally released there RF range. Unfortunately, they do not offer a wireless Dualtec or Shockguard, meaning that we cannot offer a comprehensive range of devices unlike with the Bosch.

Any comments on the Bosch or GardTec radio gear would be appreciated. Manufacturers never advertise the true problems that they have with their equipment - and I have heard that there are some inherant problem with the Bosch radio, but do not know any details. They also don't offer any test gear which means that if we want to do a radio survey that we have to set up a test panel - and I don't think we really do enough of them to warrant that (and we also have sales staff). FYI - Bosch have now said that they are releasing new RF equipment at the end of the year - but they are really **** at customer relations and never give out info - and no one there really ever seems to know what is going on. That doesn't help us with decision making.

I look forward to some replies.

this is true, unfortunately.

Ive never fitted any bosch wireless, so I cant comment on that. But like most here I would expect an *some* problems with any wirefree equipment over a long enough period of time.

thats odd, as a radio site survey prior to installation is essential and necessary for the current regs.

Bosch now say (although it is not written anywhere or suggested) that we should lug around a panel and receiver. Not the ideal solution - and we would not want to make up several kits for all staff (we don't do enough to warrant it) - so it means sending someone out specifically to do a survey after the system has been sold. This is an additional cost and it is also hard to sell a system when we tell the customer that we have to do a signal strength survey first. They will then not want to pay a deposit  It's not the end of the world - but no one wants to pay for something that might be less than perfect. We've only had one problem out of 20 or so, but it only takes one to make you start to doubt - and after reading James Wakefield's comments......say no more!

Me too. I don't want a debate. It's all already been said. We all know that wireless is best (only joking!). I was just interested in hearing from any Bosch problems that other installers might be aware of that may or may not influence me.

Perhaps I should wait until I can join the secret handshake hidden forum rather than talking about it here.
