Guest Sparking_mad Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Hi all i have got a meeting with a rep from this company as our old supplier went tits up. They say that they have service engineers who will come and look at any faults rather than having to send items back to base to get checked out. Sounds good but is there a catch. What company and products do you use for your cctv systems. I have been wondering if there is anything on the market which would allow you to check the function of individual cameras remotely say from a computer using broadband link back to head office from the site with the cameras
black knight Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 There are plenty of options of equipment that you can view over ISDN or BROADBAND, - netvu is the one we use for a major supermarket. But at the end of the day if there is a problem with either a camera or the control equipment you will need to attend to check yourself with test monitor etc. There is a lot you can do remotely nowadays (usually as long as cameras are same type as control mux etc). for example one of are other major customers uses panasonic - they can check in from H/O to all their site via broadband link and do minor things like reset cameras using a pre-programmed instruction but if this don't cure problem then they have to request we attend site to check out the problem. personally i prefer this - after all i don,t want new tec to put me out of a job. now alarms have gone the remote service route in a big way, you can pre-programme some of the advanced system's so as they automatically check/log movement on every zone and if no movement/open signal received the c/s will ring site and ask them to open a a door etc to check. the controls will automatically check batteries for electrical state and report back any problems. again my personal preference is for an engineer to attend and do a visual routine check - after all an computer can,t see a unclipped cable or a potentially corroded contacted(but i grant you an resistance report should highlight the condition ) As you can see i,m old fashioned in my views and i,m sure the younger members of this forum welcome new tec because it sames them time and attendance - and customers prefer it because it cut costs. paul THE BLACK KNIGHT "Any comments / opinions posted are my opinion only and do not represent those of my employer or Company."
