Service Engineer Posted October 8, 2003 Posted October 8, 2003 Recently had this email, and personally i dont know to any stand alone unit capable of what he asks, but could probably hook something up that would do what he wants. Due to a recent robbery of horse tack and equipment, I need motion or heat sensor to detect intruders. The sensor must do the following:1. Work off a 12 volt DC car battery (we have no mains power on site) 2. On detection the "normally open circuit" unit allows 12 volts to flow through any 12 volts device such as a car spotlight etc. (Please state maximum wattage) 3. The switching device must remain on for a resettable time period (i.e. 30 seconds to a few minutes) after intruder has left. 4. Sensor to be reasonably weatherproof. 5. Unit switches itself off during daylight hours using a daylight sensor device. Note: the sensor will be mounted on a high pole attached to side of stable block. Any Suggestions....? ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
morph Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 GJD do a couple of 12volt controllers that work with their Opal pirs. You would also need a relay to switch the load in. This seems to fit the bill on all counts. You can check the product out here and the install manual is availabl for download also. GJD Website Colin.
Steve K Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 GJD Products are second to none = would reccomend them anytime, and they would fit the above criteria. Service Engineer Posted October 9, 2003 Author Posted October 9, 2003 Didnt realise GJD did any 12Volt equipment, I was gonna suggest something along the lines of a couple of Beam Sensors mounted accross the area to be covered, which when tripped would activate a timed relay with a capacity of 10 or 20 amps to trigger spotlights or sounders as required. Oh and a couple of solar panels to charge the battery during daylight. ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
dinefwr Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 Agree with you on the horses triggering the PIR's PETE. Used pir's in stalls for cows calfing, the usually get resless before giving birth and the pir's pick it up and trigger cctv
morph Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 Hi guys, The assumption was that the room was inside and the horses out. True the horses would set the pir off. Perhaps a good oportunity to test a pet friendly Detector!!!!!! But seriously I think we need a bit more info before we could accurately deciede on a solution. Peter's right a survey is essential beforehand. The GJD gear fits the bill on what was asked for, but how pratical it is, would be a different matter. You could interface other forms of detection to it, with a little bit of work. Colin.
