Zak Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 You will not be able to have a professionally installed system for that amount of money. Also, you need to know if you want the system to be monitored (contact keyholders/police in an activation) or Audible Only (just rings at the house). That will affect the price. Some companies will install pet-immune detectors but many installers won't touch them (I can't mention pet-immune detectors too loudly here otherwise I will get shouted at ). I can only repeat what I wrote on an earlier post - get a couple of local companies to come round and survey/quote. BTW, wireless systems usually work out 25-30% more expensive than wired. You would be better off with a wired system anyway. Somebody already asked you what area you are in. Like they said, if you post your town or postcode here you may find that one of the installers from this forum is in your area. Guest mandy1210 Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Hiya If any of you guys out there aer in the Fife Area of Scotland - would appreciate a quote. Not looking for an Alarm that is wired to police station or things like that. Just an every day house alarm that I can rely on. However I have coving etc round all the ceilings and would prefer not to have any mess or have to re-paint or have wires shown....I know..........I know..Im asking a lot. I can just see all you guys going.... another female. But hey.........we have to ask!
Chris Teague Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Mandy, you could try searching here: - http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/secu...lice_area.shtml Forum member "Alarmgard" (Colin) is well respected & listed on that page and as well as London, he covers Scotland, but I'm not sure about your area. Worth a call IMHO. As said, most installers will be able to hide the cables, but if you want wire free, ask the installer to check out "Gardtec" products, as at the moment (until the end of the month), they have a promotional offer on their new 595 panel with wire free / hybrid kit. Gardtec are very good systems & you never know, they (the installer) may just pass on a bit of the discount to you Hope this helps Regards Chris Chris Teague (Sales & Operations Manager) Sightguard Intruder Division Covering the Isle of Wight: - Design, Installation, Maintenance & Takeover of Intruder Alarms, Fire Alarms & Equipment, CCTV, Access Control, Nursecall. And the idea of the promotional discount is to incentivise installers who haven't used the wireless products - so I would imagine that no discount will be forthcoming to the customer as 1. more time will be spent installing the system and 2. it will be nice to actually make some money on an installation at some time!! But nice advise nevertheless! Chris Teague Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Zak mate, Gardtec ran a similar promotional offer when they first launched the hybrid kit. This brought it well in line with costs for a wired install and by passing the discount on to clients, this made it a very popular choice for those who insisted on wire free & we managed to put in a few more as a result. Very easy to set up & install & Gardtec will come to the installer & fully demo it / train your staff to prog it FOC. Since they've improved it further, we like it very much & none of the systems installed to date have been any problem. Zak Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Chris, I agree. I wrote the previous post in a light hearted way - not a critical one (if that's how you took it). We have yet to use the GardTec wireless stuff - although we have one install penciled in as a trial. They took so long releasing it that we got more entrenched with Bosch - and Bosch have more wireless devices (dualtec, inertia). As it happens, we did a very limited discounted promotion when the first GardTec offer came out, but didn't have any takers at the time . We have used GardTec for all our wired installs for years. secboy Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Bit late with this opinion but I would say only use wireless if you absolutely have to, the technology is still not yet perfected if you go for B&Q's type you should stop and do some good with the money like giving it to a good charitable cause instead or of course simply tear up £200 and put it down the nearest drain, I wouldn't use one to protect my shed, if you have to have wireless you need to use a good install Co' and they would charge up to a £1000 to install the best qual gear, my advise is that if you intend to stay in your new house for a few years save a bit more money and have an NSI gold approved company install a hard wired system, the engineers should have the attitude that to show a cable is a sin and they will leave your house as nice as when they arrived but it will cost you up to £600- £750 but it will still be ok in 10yrs time.regards Paul.
Zak Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Agreed with above, apart from the NSI Gold stuff. I thought NSI Gold mostly meant that the company has ISO. It doesn't mean they hide cables well! Anyway, obviously we are SSAIB!!
