Alexg Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Guys, Need a transmitter and receiver to transmit a color picture from a unit in a field across to a house about a mile away. There is line of site from the house to where the camera is going across the fields, I can put a aerial on the roof of the house if need be. Anyone got any links to a site with prices? Thanks.
ian.cant Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 If you want cheap then COP do them. If you want quality and reliability, use someone like Norbain.
247 Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Hi We use the Visbox 2.4 from Mel secure, these can be purchased from Norbain for around £***, and work well with no problems, never used them for distances greater than 300 meters, but they do supply directional aerials, but i dont think you will transmit a mile unless you start to upgrade and look at the microvision transitters Good luck and don't forget you get what you pay for these days.. Doktor Jon Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Hi alexg, As 247 suggested, Mel Secure are worth a look and it might also be worth checking out Wood & Douglas. I haven't got their details to hand, but if it's any help their contact information is listed on my site; the index is at:- http://www.doktorjon.co.uk/manufacturers%2...cturersdir.html It's worth remembering that if you are stretched for transmission distance, you can always cable a fair bit each end to bring the TX : RX units closer togethor, and of course, there's also the option of increasing the gain on the receiving aerial (although you are limited on power output / aerial gain for the transmitter), when using licence exempt equipment. regards D.J.
secure4 Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Hi there I've got some used transmitters / receivers, yagi and parabolic aerials which should cope easily with your demands over line of sight, however, stick a tree in the way and you'll have problems. Why oh why did they stop us using microwaves! Regards. Mark secure4.me.uk digital cctv
Mavrick_001 Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Fitted a mel last night... pile of pooh and have to go back to site in 2hr today to sort it!! Not happy at all. Fitted some great RDT kit in the past, has a receiver indicator (fairy lights, if you know what they are) to show what signal strengh you've got, flying lead, wounder about, jobs a good one, the distance was about 1mile & half, never had any problems. NOW THEN... on a site of my own recently, bought some reasonable expensive kit to do a 50m trek, line of sight from a remote garage to a house, load of rubbish, kept dropping out etc... 1watt transmitter as well... complete joke! Took it back for the cheapest nastiest transmitter they had to give me, works a treat, 1st time with no bu**ering about, no problems since. Radio is a bit hit and miss, I always tell the customers, it will either work 1st time, work after a bit of messing about, or will not work at all. If they're still happy then away we go. I personally hold C&G Radio Ham Certificate "A" class and have done for some time, as well as a few other qualifications in radio and electronics (more as a hobby than to be put into practice for work) and have bee involved in radio for umm a good 12 years or more. It gets a bit embarassing when the stuff won't do the pidilly job of about 30m run last night.... what a joke..... toying with the idea of lashing an overhead up or though not too keen as it's needing to be a "secure" installation as regards vandalism and also we have no cable on view so far and I'd love to keep it that way!!! Will let you know about the MEL kit tonight.... PM me if you like, will give you the number for the fantastic cheap"o" version that's impressed me no end, we're talking transmitter & receiver for around £150 where as original was ALOT more expensive and didn't do the job. They'll send audio as well, worth a shot from now on, even though it sounds cheap and nasty... I for one will assure you is't not!! CCTV Intruder Access Control Tony Hughes, Proprietor, TRADE MEMBER
Alexg Posted July 23, 2005 Author Posted July 23, 2005 Right, Got a reply back from the customer and he recons the most it will be is 1km. If you got up on the house roof you could probably just see the building its going on in the distance he thinks, he doesn't think there are trees in the way but says there could be one but he thinks you would be able to see over the top of it. Mavrick_001, I have PM'd you asking for details of the kits you've used.
