An Engineer Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 Can the Galaxy 60 panel be used in home automation? Ie remote activation of lights and turning on heating etc? Service Engineer Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 Think so Warwick, but Pete will put me right if im wrong. ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
Guest Peter James Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 I have my Galaxy 500 switching lights on and off controlling my central heating using the Galaxy Gold software. I have run cables all round my house in readiness for differnt projects like curtains and remotes for the vcr (i havent worked out how to get the blank tape in the vcr remotley yet) the galaxy 60 is the same panel with less outputs (and inputs for that matter). Zones can be linked to an output and visa versa galaxy will do everything you need and more. Pete
Service Engineer Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 Is the Galaxy 60 at all limited in comparison to the 512/520 etc, I mean excepting the obvious, what are the main differences. Is there much more you can do with the 500 series that the 60 series cannot .. ? Nearly bought a Galaxy 60 today, but the price shocked me and i walked away ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
An Engineer Posted October 14, 2003 Author Posted October 14, 2003 Thats great because its just the kind of project I had in mind for my own home. But is it possible to dial in from a mobile phone, for instance to start the heating, turn on lights etc? Or does it all have to be done from a PC with Galaxy Gold? Guest Peter James Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 At the moment it is galaxy gold only (I beleive that the sixty is exactly the same only with less zones and outputs Paul will correct me if im wrong) They are expensive but all I can say is you get what you pay for especially at component level. The Castle Euro meridian is also feature full and would be my second choice. also expensive but a very nice bit of kit. If you want a cheaper alternative Guardall's latest panels do everything as well but they are real hard work to program even for the hardened toughest engineer. If you dont mind second hand Dave nearly every //.National Installer.// eng has one in their garage or loft that their not using ( least all the //.National Installer.// engineers I know do) do a post Pete
Guest Peter James Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 I have a mark2 rkp you can have Dave (mark 2 were the best ones)(sorry the offers only for Dave I only have one and if Dave dont want it I will keep it in case one of mine fail) Pete
Service Engineer Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 :red: YES PLEASE PETE :red: Was quoted: over £100 for a galaxy 60 over £230 for a galaxy 512 £70 for a standard rkp and £100 for the prox rkp. Never expected them to be sooo expensive, and thay are trade prices not including vat ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
Guest Peter James Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 Sounds about right to me they are cheaper if you buy alot though. Ive PM,ed you but you already know that. Pete
An Engineer Posted October 16, 2003 Author Posted October 16, 2003 Now all you need is a panel, you could always just mount it anyway and pretend Service Engineer My opinions may not reflect those of my employer, managers, colleagues, customers, friends, family or pet rabbit.
