Deltaseven Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 We use staple guns all the time (in the right situation of course...) We have not been given a deviation for using them - but we were given a deviation for using "non-white" (ie silver) staples. NACOSS inspector says they can cut the cables. Uh-huh.
norman Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 *fact I have been to a job done by a subby where they used normal flat staples, I will see if I still have the pics. */fact Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

Guest G.J.M Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Not aloud to use them at our branch, but an engineer from another branch told me that they use them all the time. The reason we are not aloud to use them is qoute "if the staple starts to rust then that will impair the insulation of the cable". What a load of boll**ks, this could take 20 years in normal conditions. 62562[/snapback] seen sites before which has had a staple through a cable and taken ages to show up a fault, the staple was rusting. Can't see how a rusty staple would affect the outer insulation of a cable though. Ours still use staple guns, taking a 4 core takes yonks and it does not look that great.
Guest ALSEC Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Left my staple gun in a customers attic last week and can't remember which one! Gutted, hopefully it will still be there to collect on the next service!!!
PJF Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 It will be the tool fairys again ?, They must have moved on from my jobs. Having said that I lost a two day old terminal driver(£2.80) and found it a week later in the apprentices tool kit Top tip: if you ever catch fire, try to avoid seeing yourself in the mirror, because i bet thats what REALLY throws you into a panic and dont forget the one thing you cant recycle is wasted time.
britops Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Staple guns are the devils tools. One bad shot and it all f*^ked up.
hastings Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 I think they are fine for domestic alarms or in lofts but trunking or conduit for everything else (if it has to be surface).
Guest graale00 Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 We're told that we are to always use cable clips.... but I know of engineers who use staple guns in back stock rooms etc etc
xx badwolf xx Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 we leave it up to our engineers if they use staple guns i do check the work and inspect work to ensure they are being used in the right place not just fixing to anything to make it a quick job i know the ssaib inspector frowns on it but if used in the right material we dont get marked down for it. mark Mark Smith, Director, S M Fire & Security Ltd, Bradford
