Guest peterd Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 Hi Everyone, A basic introduction... I worked for BT for 23 years but left ten years ago and drifted into computer networking by accident. In the last few years of my BT time I started a part-time business with another guy installing alarms and we ran this for about five years before I started on DTH satellite installations. I installed my home alarm about 12 - 14 years ago. I'm pretty sure it's an ADE panel, maybe not the logic four as I recall that was key-switch only, it could be an early version of the Optima. It has four zones and a membrane key-pad. Any ideas? The user manual used to be stored on top of the panel but my wife or one of the daughters lost it some time ago. If I knew for sure what the panel was then I'm sure I could download a replcement. We recently had a power cut and the panel lost all programming. I'd not had the lid off it for years but I changed the main battery and re-programed it but a subsequent power cut wiped it again. I assume from this that the panel has a seperate battery to keep programming data up, like the rechargeable on a PC main board? Finally, the membrane key-pad has started to crack on the numbers that we use, does anyone have any idea if a replacemnet part is available please? Regards Peter
Guest dale Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 Hi Pete, If its still loosing data after replacing the battery check that you have installed the right power battery, and check make sure you havent blown the battery fuse (if your system has one). Its probably a good idea to spend a few quid and replace the panel if its been in 12-14 years, as it might be very hard getting hold of a keypad membrane. Dale
Guest peterd Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 hi Dale, spend a few quid! gasp!! Actually I'd considered that but then there's another six keys that are virtually untouched, as new, etc, so I'll probably just change the code ) I changed the system battery, the acid one...then wondered if there's another smaller, nicad type on the main board that just keeps the memory up? I must admit that I haven't looked for one yet, it was just something that popped into my mind this morning as I considered my next move. Thanks for your input Peter
Guest dale Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 Peter, I have never seen an ADE panel that has a lithium (or otherwise) battery that retains the memory. The only logical conclusion if the battery fuse and battery (and connections) are OK is that there must be a fault with the PCB. Seen as ADE are a bit difficult to get hold of at the minute (for replacement parts), the only thing I can suggest is changing the panel. Dale
FASTCAR Posted October 19, 2003 Posted October 19, 2003 Hi , The original Optima had no NVM so as soon as it lost its power , it lost its programming info , good enough reason to bin it on its own.
Guest kenny james Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 going by what you have described it sounds like it is an ade panel and if so i think you have had your monies worth 3 times over with one of them, the main problem with the ade panels are the ribbon cable connecting the keypad to the pcb always burnt out, ade have relocated down south and running back to normal again ,christmas is coming treat yourself to a new one latest ade models out at the moment are the optima sl8c (known as a g3) priced at around £30+ or the latest logic 6 which is a key prox reader model priced around £30+ too.
